Yes, it's why I love fan fiction more than the comics. In fan fiction, Buffy grow up and realizes what's real. Buffy in canon had too many issues that prevented her from loving Spike the way he deserved. In fan fiction, she gets past caring about other peoples' opinions and making everyone else happy.
