Dallas Fandays - A Local Type Of Comic Con

Tommy and I went last weekend to the Dallas version of Comic Con.
It's much smaller scale than either Comic Con or Dragon*Con, but
I enjoyed it.  Less walking and a single building instead of several
hotels like Dragon*Con.  Plus you wait outside in a parking garage
instead of the hot sun.

fandays 2012

First day was a bit of shopping and photos for Tommy and his niece,
Courtney, who came with us.  That day we attended panels with
Sean Astin, Robert Englund aka Freddy in A NIGHTMARE ON ELM
STREET, and Felicia Day.  Tommy and Courtney had photos to do
so I stayed in the panel room to hear Casper Van Dien and

Dina Meyer's panel for Starship Troopers. I felt bad for them because
there were very few questions about the movie or their careers.

Second day was just me and Tommy.  We sat though panels with
Gina Torres and Alan Tudyk (from FIREFLY) and Eddie McClintock
from Warehouse 13.  Did you know Gina has training as singer?
She sang during the panel and it was just amazing.  And if you
haven't heard yet, James Marsters and Tony Head are filming parts
for Warehouse 13 that will be coming up.  Eddie must not have
watched Buffy because he thought Giles was a professor on the
show.  Eddie said he couldn't talk much about what they were
on the show, but James has revealed he will play an immortal
and Tony will be his brother in the episodes.  So Randy and Giles
are back together again sorta. Hee!

The panels were so much fun. I love going to panels.  You find
out so much about behind the scenes and silly stuff.  I loved it
when Alan and Gina booed Fox Network for canceling Firefly.
Felicia is just so wonderful.  She truly gets how fans feel.

I did laugh at Eddie talking about how seeing Bruce Campbell in

The Evil Dead, Part Two led to him being an actor. Eddie then spoke
about meeting Bruce for the first time on Sat.  He totally fanboyed
and it was just so funny.

Also on Sunday, Tommy was picking out a photo for Casper Van
Dien to sign.  Lance Henriksen walked up to say hello to Casper.
Casper was thrilled that Lance came to see him.  They were based
on different floors to sign autographs.  When Lance left Casper just
was so excited.  He admires Lance and had worked with him on a
project.  Tommy missed the whole thing because he was busy picking
out a photo for the autograph. It's fun to see an actor reacting like we do
on meeting someone we love.

I am so glad you got to go to a Con, even if no James there.

I had heard the bit about James being on WH13 ... not a show I know, but will have to find out which episodes so I can see them!

I haven't watched many of the episodes of it. I have recording some with actors Tommy and I like. Tommy has been watching the DVDs. The show is about the warehouse the government uses to house dangerous artifacts. The characters often have to go find artifacts and have adventures dealing with the problems the artifacts create. Years ago there was a show called Friday 13th which was very similar to this.

We did have a fun weekend. I did see the Lance Henrikson moment I just missed the mouthwash part. it was funny to see Casper go all fanboy over him.

I thought you missed Casper squealing over Lance as well.

For those reading the comments, Casper took a swig of mouthwash after Lance left. Then he took a photo with a fan at the table. He made some comment about needing to spit as he signed Tommy's autograph. Tommy later said that Casper had dip in his mouth. I laughed and said it wasn't snuff, but mouthwash.

AWESOME! Hehehe, Lance was very nice when I had him sign his book - even though it was with the wrong name. LOL I can see Casper fanboying!

I'm so glad you and Tommy had fun!

It was more more low key and fun. Robert Englund gave a great talk at his panel. He has been all over the world filming and had amazing stories to tell.

How the heck did I not know this? That you went there? I am SO slack, wait, I think I did know... Wait.... Oh my head hurts.... I'm sure I'm losing my memory....

I don't remember if either of us posted about going before this post. This was first time off (more than my normal two days off a week) since about April. In April I had a colonoscopy so that wasn't a very relaxed time for me. The prep takes me days to get over. I was weak for days after. So this was much more fun.

Thanks for answering my question about the panels, Newbie here. Been to tons of other things but never to a con. Tiff likes to go, maybe now that my little one is getting bigger and really loves to go places I might get a chance to go. Love your current mood icon,so funny.

I was so tired Sat. I went to bed by 8:30. I only got home at 7:30. We did a lot of standing and waiting. Sunday, my legs were sore.

The only thing about cons is that there are huge crowds. Would that bother your little guy? Too much going on might upset him. Small cons might not be bad, but I would go to one without him first to see what it is all about before I would take him. Lots of waiting around in lines to see actors, get an autograph and for panels. Most of the actors I like are good with kids. Some are not. So are real dicks. James will stop everything to talk to a kid. He loves kids.

I think we could start with a comic con, I think he would like that, I think it would be fun for both of us.I'm not sure how much my legs would last.

Most of the cons, you can buy a single day pass. Depending on the layout, most of them are in a single building. Dragon*Con is now in five different hotels. Three are very close to each other. The next one is about ten-fifteen mins walk away. The newest one is up a very steep hill. We took a taxi to it. Not a long ride, but the walk would have killed me.

Forgot to say, most of them have handicap services. You can check the sites to see what services they have.
