Mask of Denial Prompt: Denial

Written for open_on_sunday 's prompt of Denial.
I doubt this will be well received there.
It's my take on Xander Harris after The Pack from Season One.

Title: Mask of Denial
Prompt: Denial
Rating: PG-13
Summary:  All of the characters of BTVS had problems with denial.
                   This is my take on Xander’s denial.
Setting: Season 1 following Episode The Pack

Xander still had moments when he felt guilty.

Every once in a while, he would notice Giles watching him.

Willow never once blamed him for his actions.

He was so cruel to her that day.

Buffy was so forgiving of her friends.

He really didn’t deserve her friendship or forgiveness.

He had vivid dreams of Buffy struggling under him.

Vivid dreams that ended very differently.

He would wake up with his heart pounding and his skin covered in sweat. 

After those dreams, he would put on his mask of denial.

Once again, he was sweet, funny, donut eating Xander Harris.

I hate how Xander lied about remembering what happened while he was possessed. I dislike Xander in canon because of his petty ways. He is always mouthing off about demons, but he isn't pure just because he has a soul. I see Xander as passive aggressive. Says one thing and does another. Reminds me of Chuck. You see I don't have my name anywhere on his icon.

His actions get swept under the rug by the characters. All of the characters have moments when they act badly. Xander's lies and hateful attitude gets ignored more than the others.

I'm not a Xander fan. I disliked him from the beginning of the series. I was bugged no end by him. He held up all his girlfriends to Buffy and they always fell short of his expectations.

I always saw Xander as passive aggressive. He lied, talked down others, and judged everyone, but claimed it was just him joking. Not one of my favorite characters at all.
