I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy.

Seems this quote isn't by Martin Luther King, Jr, but that does not lessen the truth of it.

Martin Luther King, Jr did say this in his book, Strength to Love:

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.

Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence,
and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction....

The chain reaction of evil--hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars--must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.

I struggled with what to post on the reports of the death of Osama Bin Laden.
I had mixed feelings over it.  I do mourn the loss of lives due to this man.
I worry that more lives will be lost after as well.
It seems a victory for the time being, but what will result from this?
More war. More danger. More loss.

I hate all the questions in the media about it.
I don't want this to stir any more revenge on either side.
Sadly, I think it will just keep on going on.

First off, I am sorry but I have been informed that I got it wrong, it's not his quote. So I have kept the post up and I have simply removed his name from it until I find the source.

Okay my opinion is this. I am glad the man is no longer the head of that organisation. I am not bothered the man is dead and I do not grieve for him.

I do fear that his death could cause retribution or be a boost to recruitment. But it's probably a good thing he is dead.

However, I thought that we, the coalition in this war, but I speak now for my nation only, were "better" than them. That we had the moral high ground, considering the evil that they have done and what we had to do to ensure it would never happen again.

I also felt and still feel that we have fought a just war against tyranny and those who wish to crush our freedom.

I remember how extremist Muslims on the news danced and celebrated on September the 12th. I thought we were not like them. I hoped we were not. Cos I am just not sure that openly celebrating, thousands on the streets, cheering and drinking, the death of anyone.

Not just him, anyone

Imho it makes the moral high ground beneath my feet start to feel like it is crumbling somewhat.

I hope this made sense and I in no way condemn what has happened, nor do judge anyone or any nation for their reactions and I certainly do not condone the unbelievable acts of evil done in this man's name.

This has me thinking about my morals and ideas. On one hand I can understand that people who have lost someone because of his actions or speeches would rejoice in this news on the other side I find it difficult to celebrate the loss of a life, even his. My personal believe is to treat others as I want to be treated so to kill him conflicts with that. I never want another person to lose his life in the way he did. Not saying that he didn't deserve punishment but the way... I would think that a trail would've satisfied me more.
