Retail is draining enough without stupid people like this.
Yes, this sort of thing happens all the time.

Worst thing is if one of them gets hurt, the parents would sue us.

These are teens so they don't think ahead. They just dare each other to do something and go for it. Sometimes they do stunts to join a gang or to post on youtube. Stupid, but very common.

The edges of the stand are metal, but the bits between are just like bungee cords. That is so the balls can be pulled out by customers. So not really made for this sort of action.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Some years ago a friend of mine with a Club got sued as someone fell down some staires. They had gone through a door saying Private, Staff Only ... yet as there was no specific hazard warning the case went through and compensation had to be payed.

Most places will just pay to avoid long court battles and keep it out of the news. This happened at Walmart. Walmart has more money than any other business like this. They will fight and keep you in court forever.

I think the reason kids do stuff like this can be laid at the parents' feet. When the kids are younger, the parents give them things like toys to keep them quiet while they shop. Then they take them away at the register because they don't want to pay for them. I've even see parents take a pillow and lay it inside the cart for kids to sleep on and then hand it to the cashier saying "I don't want this."

How terrible - when we were kids we were just taught that No meant No ... end of debate!

In fact I may be 52, but Mum still has "the look" that can stop me in my tracks!

Same with me and my mom. My kids knew better. The oldest, Robert's brother, had a temper fit at a store. I refused to buy him something he wanted. As he lay on the floor screaming and kicking, I told him I was leaving the store and would be in the car. He stopped and came running after me. He was six. He never did that again. I told them to put their hands in their jean pockets and not to take them out. That way they couldn't handle things. I was a tough mom, but they respected me.

I still remember being 3 or 4 years old with my mom at the grocery store (I'm 45 now) and if my mom said "no" that was the end of it. Just the tone of voice was enough. My brother soometimes used to have some awful screaming tantrums when he was very young AT HOME - we could all be awful - but in public? No way did we pull stunts.

But I'm talking about when we were very very young. These are teenagers? *shakes head*

I miss being employed, but I don't miss working in retail. *lol*

In fact I am 52, and my parents are still alive. Mum still can give me "the" look!

tiff would do something like this! I would kill my kids if they pulled a stunt like this. when tiff was younger she got her thumb stuck in a Laundromat folding table for 20 min. There was some random hole on the corner of the table, not sure why it was there. we finally greased her thumb out. Why did she do that, she says she wanted to find out what that hole was for. dumb ass. hahahahaha

Kids are one thing. Teenagers doing stunts like this are just stupid. These kids could have hurt themselves so easily. These stands are not strong enough to hold that sort of pressure. Since youtube hit teenagers are doing things like this to get a video of it. They do a lot of damage to stores and if they get hurt, the parents can sue.
