My apartment is well known for having issues. Three times now I've had to stay in a motel so repairs to the pipes could be done. Last year they leveled the building and that caused doors not closing and cracks in the walls. The building was sold twice in the last couple of years. I had the neighbors from Hell that finally got evicted. They kept the area behind the building trashed. They had yard sales and stored junk there. Caused lots of bugs. It's been six months so that finally cleared up after a couple of sprayings.

On Friday night I was watching TV in bed about 7:30 pm. There was banging on my front door. As I went to answer the door, I saw flashing red lights outside. A female firefighter asked to come in and check for a gas leak. Seems there was a leak in the lines outside the building. Now the last year there have been several houses blown up in the Dallas area due to gas leaks. I didn't have a leak in my apartment, but was told I might have to evacuate. I waited for awhile and they came back asking where my car was parked. They were going to have to dig up part of the area where we park. So I left and bought some fast food since I didn't want to cook in the apartment. I came back a couple of hours later. They said I could go back into my apartment as they had fixed the leak. I just had to park my car in different area.

On Monday night I was watching TV in my bedroom when I heard a strange sound. It was my smoke alarm in the living room. It was only beeping once an hour so I wasn't too worried. It was the batteries needing to be changed. The smoke alarm was high up above my head so I couldn't reach it. The only step stool I had wouldn't let me reach it. I was off the next day so decided to buy a taller ladder so I could change the batteries. I close my bedroom door so the noise wouldn't keep me awake. I was drifting off and the bedroom door slowly opened itself. Took me a minute to realize the building had settled and the door opened because the HVAC had come on. It is never dull around here. I spoke to my upstairs neighbor a day later about the smoke alarm. He said his went off a couple of days before the gas leak and it was just the batteries. We had a good laugh about it. I would move, but this apartment is close to work and cheaper than any other I could rent. A one bedroom apartment around here is over $1,000 dollars a month. Mine is only $825. I can deal with strange things going on to save money.

My life is about going from minor crisis to minor crisis. Seems like one ends and another rolls up. I have to keep a good attitude. I'm doing quite well, thanks.

The bedroom door opening by itself would have spooked me royally. ;-)

It did for a moment, lol. I just had to wake up a bit and realized what caused it.

You're taking all this potentially dangerous and disturbing stuff awfully calmly...!

Yeah, I'm the person you want to be with if a zombie apocalypse occurs. My mom was terrified of everything. I realized it didn't help to worry. It didn't change the outcome of anything and just stressed you.

My ex really couldn't deal with me being so independent. He wanted to be the big strong male. Since he was in the military he was gone a lot of the time. I took care of our kids, his and my parents. I have a difficult time asking for help. It has served me well since the divorce.

Nothing wrong with being independent! People who are afraid of everything and/or silly things drive me nuts. :)

Growing up both my mother and grandmother were terrified of everything. I spent many a night in the storm cellar because it might rain. Since my mother was too scared to drive, I got my license at 14. My father was never home so I ended up being the driver of my family. It helped me be independent, but I would have never allow a 14 yr old drive. I was so not ready be that responsible at that age. It did force me to grow up fast.

Oh so sorry - sounds like you have had a busy few days.

My smoke alarm went off last month, and a real pain as I couldn't get the cover off, so a friend popped in after work (the next day), so Jiffy and I had ear-ache by then!!

*hugs*

Getting the thing off the wall was easy. Figuring out how to change the batteries was harder. I had no instructions since the company running the apartments put the fire alarms in about a year ago. I fiddled around with it and finally got the thing figured out.

The annoying thig is I actually have 3 of them, but it turned ou that this one had been attached badly so the clip was in the corner of the ceiling/wall ... so glad to know it wasn't me going mad!

Do wonder how the rest of life is going with you - think of you often x

Just working five days a week. Tommy and I go to the movies once a week and out to eat. He works nights so we don't have time for much else. Thankfully the weather hasn't been too bad this year. I hate to drive on ice. We seldom have snow, but ice we do have.

I went to Sonic and got a burger and fries. Thankfully I have a DVR so I got to watch Manifest and Prodigal Son. I love both of those. I watch a lot of the CW because they have all the DC tv shows there. I been watching the Outsider on HBO. That's really good. I watch the Masked Singer. This Sat RuPaul is going to be on Sat Night Live. Can't wait for that.
