Governor Abbott is trying to make the shooting in Uvalde all about mental health. No, many people have mental health issues, but they don't go on a shooting rage. You refuse to pass gun laws to limit who can purchase a gun. You say eighteen yr olds have to be been able to buy guns for sixty years in TX. Yes, they could buy a hunting rifle. It's only been a few yrs that they could buy a AR-15. A weapon used in war should not be easy to be purchase by the general public.

You talk about making school safer by arming teachers or having armed guards on site. There was an armed guard on duty, but the shooter had more fire power and protective armor. Even the local police were not able to stop this shooter. It took a specially trained border guard with similar weapons to take this guy down.

Governor Abbott passed laws in TX that you can buy a gun without a permit and/or special training. You can open carry. You posted that TX was #2 in gun sales and that we should be ashamed to be #2. That we needed to buy more guns. Abbott is scheduled to speak at a NRA meeting in TX in a few days. Abbott is in the NRA pocket. He will never do anything to go against the NRA. They give him funds to support them. Shame on you Governor Abbott.

Not again!

Republicans, why? You pass laws to protect unborn by forcing desperate women to give birth against their will. Yet you allow babies to be killed with guns. You refuse to pass laws to limit guns which end up in the hands of people with hate in their hearts who go into places that should be safe to slaughter Innocents. Shame on you.

Saw my main doctor today. He is maybe in his late thirties or early forties. Nice guy, very athletic and divorced. He's very straightforward. After over two years I finally got covid. He was asking me what symptoms I had and how I felt now.

Then we went over my medicines. I told him I was taking a D3. He then said people shouldn't take a bunch of vitamins. That I should just get more sun. My family history has a lot of skin cancers so I avoid the sun. I asked about the Lipitor I've taken for about twenty yrs. I've been having muscle spasms and muscle pains around my knee. It's gotten so bad I limp. He wanted to send me to a specialist. I asked him to change the medicine first to see if it was side effects. He really didn't want to do that. He finally agreed to change it from 40MH to 10MG.

We spoke more about different things. Asked him about getting the second booster. Since I just had covid I wasn't sure if I should get one right away since I should have antibodies for a while. Never got an answer because he started talking about how people use COVID as an excuse to to why they don't exercise, lose weight or whatever. This is why I usually don't go into detail with him. He is one of those doctors who thinks no one needs drugs for mental health and stress. I've never requested that sort of help, but I really needed it a couple of times. Empathy isn't his thing. He is a very good doctor, but there are times he pisses me off.

Covid

Last Wed there was a worker in my apt. He was the only person I was around that didn't wear a mask. Thursday I felt off, but not horrible. Friday I went to work, but started feeling odd. Thought it was allergies. I was working alone and really started feeling bad. They wouldn't let me leave till the next person came in. I was there for just over an hour. Took my temperature at home and it was 99.9. My temp usually is about 96.5. So that scared me. My throat was raw and I started coughing. I took a drive through test on Sat. Bingo! I had covid. Called work and was told to call company. Finally got a real person who explained what to do.

The website was a maze of confusion. I finally managed to send my test to the right place. They arranged for 10 days off with pay. So worst vacation ever. My body is so sore from coughing. Still have a slight fever. I just hope I didn't give it to anyone else.

My state and company don't require masks anymore. I wore one till it was so hot I had problems breathing during work. I only went without a mask for a couple of days. Big mistake. I will wear one now. I was lucky since I vaccinated. It wasn't as bad as it could have been. I just had a minor case.

Abortion

Abortion. I'm old enough to remember what it was like before Roe vs Wade. Abortions were difficult for people who didn't have money or power. You might find a doctor who would do one and fudge the records to cover it up. You might go to someone who claimed they knew what they were doing, but really didn't. Lots of women died because they were desperate and trusted the wrong person. Some took drugs and hope the pregnancy would end. Some would harm themselves to cause a miscarriage. Guys would get their buddies to claim the girl had sex with more than one guy so she couldn't claim they were the father. This was before dna testing.

Politicians now claim they will protect the unborn so abortion isn't a right. They are all about protecting the unborn. They only care till the baby is born. Then unless it's a boy, they could care less. Female, gay, trans or skin tones they don't share, are not worthy. That child isn't protected. They ignore healthcare, housing, education, That kid isn't worth their time. They turn their back on that child.

Every woman has a right to her body and a right to choose. Some people shouldn't have kids. But it's a woman's right to decide that for herself. Not some stranger who won't be there for that child as it grows up.

When I moved into my apt there was a single fire detector that was hardwired. It was in the hallway between the kitchen and bedroom. Then they added two battery fire detectors. One in the living room and one in the bedroom. Late last night one of them started chripping. I put new batteries in the newer ones. Still heard chripping. Pulled both of them down and realized it was the hardwired one chripping. Changed the backup battery and it still was chripping. Since it was after 10 pm, I gave up and just closed the door. Emailed the office about it. They are in no hurry to to deal with it. So guess I will be closing the door to muffle it tonight. Bet it will be a week or longer before someone will show up. It is background noise now.

Got my review at work. They were happy with me. Raise doesn't really show it. Two per cent which is better than most received. My rent just went up $100 a month. Raise doesn't cover that so I'm no better off. Rentals are crazy around here. I now pay $1,000 a month along with $30 for water. All of the units except mine have been updated. I've lived here for six yrs. The other units were updated with a dish washer. I really don't care since it's only me. My building is from 1963 so it isn't fancy like other complexes. I would have to pay around $500 more in a newer place.

I live in a very small apartment building. There are only six apartments. Four one bedroom and two with two bedrooms. One side of the building has four parking spaces and the other side has five spaces. No place to park on the street. You have assigned spaces since it is so limited. A woman moved in one of the single bed unit. She had two cars and parked in my space. I left a polite note explaining the situation. She got angry and was banging on my door. She was yelling through the door. No way was I going to open that door. I emailed the office for the apartment which is in another city. They contacted her and told her to use her one space only. A few months later she was evicted.

This weekend a guy moved into that apartment. He parked in my space. I came home and spoke to him as he was getting into the car. Today I got an email from the office saying there are not assigned spaces and there are two spaces available for each apt. How they got twelve spaces when there is only nine I don't know. I emailed the CEO and in less than ten mins there was a follow up email. Now they were stating there were assigned spaces and fines if someone used the wrong space. 🤣😇🤭

Happy birthday to[livejournal.com profile] susandennis. Enjoy your special day.
kuda: (Texas)
I grew up in Texas and lived through lots of strange weather. Yet the last couple of years has really been strange. I am use to 100+ summer months. I remember stories from my mom about snow being so deep that they dug tunnels in it. In my life time, snow was maybe an inch that was gone by afternoon.

The last two years have changed our winters. Last year we had a week of snow and ice with temps of below zero. Huge change. Last month, we had icy for days, but not below zero. Last Monday night we had tornados. Oklahoma and Texas got hit by over ten tornados. One was a few miles from where I live. Those storms moved east and into other states. So many homes just wiped away. Not that tornados are unusual, but so much odd weather so close together is.

I pray that everyone is safe and our government realizes that climate change is real.

I got an email from LJ in Russian. Thought it was odd so checked my friend's page. Not there. So checked on my friend's friends page and there it was. Some odd post about a hashmob. Deleted the email. Very strange.

Did anyone else get a message in Russian about a hashmob? I deleted the email since I had no idea what they were about. Not taking chances. The post was on my friends of friends link.

Happy birthday to[livejournal.com profile] whichclothes. Another friend from BTVS fandom who wrote spicy Spike. Now she is a published author. Spike was her muse and helped her hone her skills. May she have a wonderful birthday day! 🍰🎈🎉

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] dorians_kitten. I think you have moved on from LJ, but still hope you have a wonderful birthday. Blessings for you on your special day.🎂

One of my very first LJ friends was [livejournal.com profile] ssddgr. She welcomed me into fandom. Since then her life has changed very much. She married the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] blackoberst and became a loving mother. She wrote amazing fan fiction for Spuffy which like many fandom authors led to developed into original fiction of her own. She doesn't post on LJ or DW now so I miss her very much. I wish her much happiness today and always.

She gifted me some art and the lovely icon on this post.Birthday present from ssddgr

Again Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] ssddgr.

Seems my scrapbook won't transfer to DW. So you won't see her art on this post. I was able to use her icon created from the art, but I had to edit that after the import.

Woman wants to do a return. Refunded an item with a receipt. No problem. Then she starts digging in her handbag looking for a different receipt to do another return. Can't seem to find it. Says that the person who helped at a different store must not have given her her receipt back. Then she asks me if I gave her back the receipt from the return I just did. I point to it laying in front of her. She moves to the side and digs in her handbag again. She finds the one she was looking for and I do that return. She goes off into the store.

A few minutes later she is back. I'm with a different person doing a return. My coworker tries to help her. She hands her a bag with clothes in it. My coworker asks if she has a receipt for this item. Woman starts saying it's in with the clothes. No receipt in the bag. She starts yelling at my coworker. Turns out it was in a different bag. Then she starts cursing about kids in the fitting room making too much noise. Says kids shouldn't be allowed in the fitting room. She must have said "f*ck" a dozen times in less than five minutes. We just ignored her and gave her her return. Why? Why do people feel they act act like that?

I was able to import my LJ to DW. I was scanning some of the posts to see how far back it went. I got back to 2011 and stopped. Lots of videos and photos did survive. It was fun reading some of the older posts.

LJ is slowly dying it seems. I will really miss this site. It helped me during a dark time. I found a group of people here that brought much joy to my life.

I pray that everyone is safe. That this madness will end soon.

Seems Live Journal is imploding. It's very sad. I loved how I found friends around the world there. LJ came into my life at a dark time. Fandom kept me sane. It added so much to my life when things were very bad. Buffy, The Vampire Slayer and James Marsters introduced me to a different world. A world of talented and generous group of wonderful people who brought joy and kindness to my life. RIP Live Journal.
